What are Biodiversity (BNG) Units?
Recent legislation has created a new market for Biodiversity units. Landowners ca now create or enhance habitats on their land and register the biodiversity improvements (along with a legal agreement) on the governments’ new Biodiversity Gain Site register. These units can then be sold to developers needing off-site Biodiversity units.
Why would you need to buy BNG units?
As a small or large developer, you may have built an extension, large estate or something in between. As such, to comply with planning regulations you will need to increase the biodiversity of the site by 10%. The ideal solution is to increase the biodiversity onsite, therefore not needing to purchase off-site BNG units.
If you are not sure how to achieve this increase, we can advise you and assist by carrying out a Biodiversity Net Gain assessment. This will identify how many units you will need to remain compliant and achieve your planning permission.
